Before you can insert the radio removal keys, we first need to remove the 4 grub screws blocking the holes.
They aren't holding anything in place - just helping to keep the stock stereo looking smart.
Put the grub screws in a pot until after the stereo is completely out - you can then screw them back into place if you're storing your stereo for refitting before selling your car.
Carefully insert the radio removal keys into the corresponding holes in the stereo.
Be careful not to scratch the bezel by inserting one foot of the keys at a time.
Once the keys are loosly inserted they take a bit of effort to get them to release the stereo. You are aiming to get the keys inserted to the same depth as shown in our picture.
With the removal keys locked in place, pull the radio removal keys straight back towards you.
The stock stereo is a very tight fit - we used our thumbs on the dash to help squeeze the stereo out!
Once the stereo is a couple of inches out, you will be able to hold the stereo itself and carefully pull it all the way out.
There are no connectors at the back of the stereo - they are automatically unplugged as you remove the stereo.
The stereo was held in place by this cage - we need to remove it in order to fit your new stereo.
Using a Torx screwdriver, remove the single retaining screw taking care not to drop it - it will be lost forever!
As you've noticed, the cage is secured by grips around the cage. The best way to take the cage out is to first bend the bottom of the cage upwards with your hands until you can see the grips are above the lips. Repeat the process for the top of the cage.
With the top and bottom bent towards each other the grips on the sides also release. The cage will always pop back into shape too.
We put a Bojo trim tool under (and above) the cage to keep the grips at the right height - use anything that won't cause damage by digging into the trim.
Slowly remove the cage until the grips are clear - then we removed the Bojo trim tools.
Once the cage is in this position, it's a simple job of pulling it out to remove it completely.
Pinch the clip at the top and bottom of the aerial lead to remove it.
Pinch all three of the clips on the blue connector.
Push the same side of the blue connector which has the clips on it out the back of the cage as shown in the second image.
Wiggle the connector free.
We're now finished removing things - it's time to do the fun stuff!
Offer up the fascia and fit it into place. It was a tight fit and we found it was easiest to put the bottom into place and then line the rest up whilst working up.
Attach the aerial adaptor and ISO lead as shown in our pictures.
These parts will convert the vehicle's wiring into a connection that is compatible with your new stereo.
Slide your new stereo's cage into place.
This will hold your stereo securely in position - just like the factory fitted cage held the stock stereo in place.
Use a screwdriver or similar to bend the teeth of the stereo cage outwards to grip against the fascia.
This will ensure the stereo is held securely in place.
Bring the new stereo into play - connect the ISO lead and Aerial Adaptor to the stereo.
If you are fitting a cable for an iPod, Aux input or signal cables going off to amps now is the time to get them into position and plugged into the back of the stereo.
Before sliding your new stereo into place, make sure all of the cables running from behind the stereo are out of the way.
This will help the stereo slide in easily and will also help to keep the cables safe whilst you're fitting your new stereo.
Finally, our demo stereo has a nice trim piece which makes it look that bit smarter.
Fit whatever trim you have - then it's time to give it a blast!
We know this has been a long tutorial but we found the process straightforward (with a lot of steps!) which has helped us write this detailed step by step guide. The hardest step is getting the removal keys into the correct position as it took patience and a bit of effort to get them to click into place. From then on it's plain sailing - take care along the way and you will be able to do a great job yourself.
