First thing's first - remove the old stereo. Using 4 Sony removal keys, put 2 in the horizontal slots beneath the stereo's display and slide the other two carefully in between the join at the top of the stereo. If your dash looks like this one, you can line the keys up with the middle of the two half moon's - straight down from there is where the catches are.
The lower image show the catches that hold the stereo in place. The way to release them is to angle the key upwards and try to slide it over the top of the latch. A bit tricky when you can't see it but be patient and once they're released it comes out very easily.
Once the release keys have done their job, look for the latch around the large connector. This acts as a hinge and detaches easily.
The aerial connector (pictured) needs the release latch to be squeezed slightly before it will come off easily.
Next we need to make something useful from the pile of 'stuff'.
If you have bough the kit with the can bus adaptor (for steering wheel controls), you will need to connect it all up:
Assemble the can-bus component according to the instructions they ship with. The head unit manufacturer specific lead plugs into this harness, as shown in the bottom picture.
Attach the ISO lead to the vehicle lead - this has the same clasp hinge system as the original stereo did.
Next up is the aerial adaptor - connect this to the ISO loom as pictured.
You should now have at least these three connectors ready to plug in. the DIN aerial connector is on the right, the middle one is the ISO lead, and the one on the right is the remote cable which tells the headunit when you've used the steering wheel controls.
In order to make it as easy as possible to slide the stereo back into place you can pop the can-bus interface up out of the way (behind the vents).
Take the box pictured in the top image and push it up through the hole so you end up with a unit that's nicely out of the way.
If you have a double DIN head unit you can put the cage in and proceed to the next step, otherwise you need to pop the pocket (part number FP-016) in too. Put the cage in first, and then slide the pocket in on top.
This converts the double DIN space into a single DIN ready for your head unit and gives you an added pocket.

This and the next step are only required if you are using a single DIN head unit (like ours). In order to hold everything in place securely, velcro comes in very handy indeed. It's clean and strong - we provide this as part of the tutorial kit if you choose it.
Take the strip of velcro, and cut into suitable lengths (we used 5 and had a spare bit left over). Place the strips together (hooks on the bottom of the pocket, loops on the bottom of the car's stereo aperture.
Pay particular attention to which way up the pocket is, refer to the image below as the lip must be at the top.
Check the velcro strips line up.
Now is a good time to tape the iso leads together so they don't rattle/slide when driving.
Fit the fascia, and slide the pocket back as far as it'll go into the fascia.
Slide the pocket down towards the velcro whilst pusing the pocket back in order to get the tightest fit possible.
Insert the cage, gathering all the cables and passing them through the middle of the cage.
Once the cage is in place, bend the required teeth in the cage outwards to grip the pocket and fascia to hold the stereo securely in place.
Attach all of the cables to the stereo - the top image shows the remote cable on the right hand side (this carries the signals from the steering wheel controls).
Slide the upgraded Leon stereo carefully into place.
Add any additional trim your head unit came with.
Once this is done, get a cuppa on and give it a blast!
Test the steering wheel controls work and think of the money saved doing it yourself!
